Hello, my name is Sérgio, and I am an experienced Mobile Staff Engineer based in Lisbon. My areas of expertise include mobile applications, location services, augmented reality, and computer graphics. I thrive in fully distributed environments, bringing strong skills in project management, remote collaboration, and cross-cultural teamwork.
I have been working with iOS since 2008, the year Apple launched its first public SDK. Over that time, I have developed deep expertise across the iOS platform, including UIKit, SwiftUI, memory management, Core Data, concurrency, performance optimization, and App Store deployment and distribution.
Currently, I serve as an iOS Mobile Principal Engineer at Automattic, where I work on the Pocket Casts app. Previously at Automattic, I contributed to the development of the Tumblr and WordPress apps.
Before joining Automattic, I held leadership roles including Head of Development at Smile Machine, Technical Director at Tigerspike, and Software Architect at YDreams.
Throughout my career, I have led teams on a wide range of software projects for major global brands, including Santander, BBC, The Economist, Al Jazeera, Nokia, Vodafone, Shell, and Emirates. More details about these projects can be found in the portfolio section.
I am passionate about mobile development and regularly write on the topic, contribute to open source projects, deliver presentations, coach teams, and develop my own apps. I am particularly interested in creating new user experiences through the innovative use of technology.
